Collectivism vs Individualism by Shirley Henderson Ft Vitalik Buterin
So the “individualism vs collectivism” dichotomy sometimes puzzles me. I often see the two words used in two senses: 1. Individualism = individual freedom, collectivism = mutual restraint 2. Individualism = caring only about yourself, collectivism = caring about common good…-Vitalik Buterin
The main “stylized fact” of this viewpoint is the idea that while averages of groups often give more accurate answers than individuals, the group averages tend to be more accurate if the individuals are not looking at what the rest of the group thinks when making their answers.-Vitalik Buterin
Libertarian collectivism: freedom is important because while going against the majority is often a mistake and leads to worse outcomes for the individual, the results of these ventures sometimes give valuable info that greatly benefits the entire collective.- Vitalik Buterin
In the first sense of the two words, it seems obvious that individualism is (generally) superior. In the second sense of the two words, it seems obvious that collectivism is superior.
Also, how would you describe someone who altruistically and self-sacrifically acts in ways specifically intended to increase other people’s individual freedom? Individualist or collectivist? Or just a good guy?- Vitalik Buterin

I would like to think the end goal of any society is peace and prosperity, to achieve such a goal innovation is required and adaptability followed by adoption. These four elements would have to come from somewhere in a none specific time, more than likely innovation comes out of the need to solve a problem.
To have a problem we have a nonconformist either a group of people or one person who can’t take it anymore and can see a better outcome than in the individual level can benefit from the change and as a result of that change after adoption everybody, else would benefit from the new norm.
So, in theory, the individualist or collective superiority is in vain until the benefits are felted
more than likely people tent to like thinks that benefit their life and reject things that produce discomfort of pain.
Thanks to the internet the communication has shortened the path of change from individuals who bring innovation to the collective adoption one example is that the use of the landline phone took about 60 years for adoption and the cellphone from 2005 to 2016 reach 81% penetration on the market.
Let’s go back to our conformist and nonconformist individual and/or collective
before 2015 nobody complained about the landline everybody was fine until one of this people purchase a Mobil phone where multiple phone communications can take place without the need to stay at home or at the office to take them. What happens? More productivity plus freedom begins to be experienced. Now let’s move forward 2011 and the same people are connecting to social media now in an app on their mobile device they are catching up with people from the past and knowing new people with interest in common while keeping family and friends connections on a daily basis. How about when the landline and the fees to make a long-distance phone call was a thing of the past with the use of WhatsApp the psychology of this is evident people do things repeatedly when they experience pleasure and stop when they experience pain. A monthly landline phone bill could be very painful when instead a mobile cellphone service offers more products and services integrated on the monthly plan. I think the only thing that delays change come from such individual or collective that would not gain the benefit of such change and yes the proponent of the change is a good guy all around who can foresee the collective good and goes thru the explaining of the benefit of the change until adoption is reached by sacrificing time and effort in the process.
I can’t conclude with saying that adoption success depends on the few factors one could be financial not all the people in the early ages of the landline though out paying the phone bill as a need so for this time passes until now days not having a mobile phone at hand and internet connection sound illogical
this is why I think nor collective nor individual is superior and they should not I would like to change this idea and introduce cooperation for innovation this way it does not take so long when the positive take might be evident
I would like to use the example of the invention of the wheel and the crowd leader
